Case overview
The Czech Competition Authority (‘CCA’) has imposed a fine of 9,904,000 CZK (approx. 409,000 EUR) on K+B Progres, for infringing both Czech and EU competition rules through resale price maintenance (‘RPM’). K+B Progres – owner of the ECG brand – is among Czechia’s leading distributors of household appliances and consumer electronics. The decision is final.
Infringement
According to the decision, K+B Progres set minimum retail prices for its resellers, monitored compliance and applied sanctions in cases of deviation from 2018 until June 2023. The conduct distorted competition in the markets for small and large household appliances and consumer electronics in the Czech Republic and could have affected trade between EU Member States.
Commentary
This case further underscores the CCA’s long-standing enforcement focus on RPM, particularly in the electronics sector.
In early 2025, the CCA published an information sheet on vertical agreements with a specific emphasis on RPM, reiterating that RPM remains an enforcement priority.
Against this backdrop, the CCA continues to signal that RPM will remain a core enforcement priority and frames its activity as contributing to – or even initiating – a broader European trend.
